I’m a Repeat Emailer - You Should Be Too!

January 15, 2018

Over the past few years, I must’ve learned 50 different ways to say “Let’s catch up.” It has become an art form, replying to my own sent emails with fresh emails that pretty much say the same thing as the last, unanswered email.

“Good morning, this is Dominique. I’d love to catch up soon”

“...It’d be great to meet up sometime.”

“...Are you free for lunch sometime next week?”

“...I hope all is well. Let’s connect!”

ETC. ETC. ETC.

However, I keep at it. I used to be wary of that, afraid to “bother” whoever I was messaging, whether it be a networking connection, a prospective employer, or any other business connect. I thought they weren’t responding to me because they didn’t want to talk to me.

I was wrong. As it turns out, many of the people you are trying to contact are just super busy. Really, it’s true. It’s not that they don’t want to answer your email. In some cases, they may be the type to skim through emails. If the subject line doesn’t let them know who you are (if they know you already) or a quick reason why you’re writing in the first place, they’ll probably skip it. Below, I’ve included some tips!

Another benefit to sending out emails, whether or not your others have been responded to, is staying at the top of the recipient’s email list. Chances are, if you sent an email a week ago and haven’t heard back, you are no longer on their radar. Let them know you’re still around. Persistence is key in these cases.
